Machynlleth (mach 3 trail)

Been out today to mach' to do the mach 3 trail (18miles). It was proper mountain biking. Over 1000m of climbing and the 'chute' descent to look forward to. The wind was blowing hard, real hard. It blew dad of his bike and I came off twice because my rucksac was catching the wind, just what you need when you are riding narrow ruts. No surprises for guessing how I fell off. The notorious chute is mad. Iv never seen such a warning sign in the middle of nowhere. It was v steep and v loose with some tricky turns. The trail consisted of welsh slate, it was like riding down a ffestiniog slag heap. You couldn't ride it fast because there were loads of random steps which would soon have you over the front if you were going too quick. So slow and steady was the way. Arms soon pumped up from dragging the brakes. we lost a lot of height quickly. The best thing was we saw nobody accept a local farmer in the feeding his livestock.

There is a video of the chute on this page: http://www.mtbbritain.co.uk/machynlleth_mach3.html
It isn't as rough in the video as it was for me and dad and we also didn't crash.

Also, my forks were playing up. Talas was difficult to move and they locked out. Great considering they don't have a lockout. Brakes are dragging and gears aren't great. Ahwell!

The trail (combined with weather) all sounds a bit "Raw" (Roar!) to me. Checked out the video and I know you probably dont get the idea of angle, but the XC guys seem to be making a meal of it?!

Bugr about your forks mate. However, get them to Mojo and get an overhall under warranty is my advice. You know how slick they are...

I still need to sort my brakes as well - Rear brake is carbonated!. Got my suspension sorted out last night though (although think rear shock has a rebound problem - you have to wind it virtually to the stop otherwise it springs back like a flaming gazel!). Forks have about 80psi in which gives me around 32mm of sag (range is 25-38). 80psi always felt right to me from riding, but didnt match up with body my body weight from chart. Going to give it a blast and see how I go. Ran at 70psi at MBR and felt very "loose". Have had to put extra in rear shock too. Think I am carrying a bit of holiday weight :)

The video flattens it off. On that video the top section is alot smoother.

Yeh, im going to see how my forks are this w/e. Not sure what pressure they are at, but the sag is right which is more important. Your rear shock rebound problem sounds familiar. Seem to remember something similar being described from an mbr enduro test. I think if you take it to far then you loose adjustability. Maybe it needs going to tf tuned under warranty also
